Wouldn’t you like to save the most money possible when going to the grocery store? There’s actually a way to do it, and we’re going to tell you about it!
The first thing you should understand is that every grocery store has a sales cycle. Most are between 2 and 3 months long. The items that typically go on sale will always, repeatedly go on sale again and again. Grocery stores do this to please their customers and to encourage you to continue to shop with them.
But if you are a couponer, you realize that this sale item is the ideal time to stock your pantry. If your child loves a certain cereal that has sporty athletes on the box and won’t eat anything else, well, then it’s important for you to buy more than just 1 box when it goes on sale! So one of the best things you can do as a couponer is to learn how the sale cycle works in your favorite grocery store and which items will be going on sale when.
So how can you do that? Some couponers might think this would take quite a bit of time. One of the ways to know is simply to ask, politely at the store when the item will go on sale again. That you’ve noticed it goes on sale and were wondering when it would go on sale next. This will give you a sense of the sales cycle.
During the time you are waiting for the sales cycle, you need to compile your coupons for this item or items. You’ll also want to be practical and sensible, to decide exactly how much is best to stock up on this item. If you have a smaller pantry then buying too much of something could be frustrating for your family. But if you have extra room then it will be far simpler to stock up as you wish to.
Don’t stock up on every item as it goes on sale. The best items to stock up on are those ones that your family uses over and over. A favorite cereal. The laundry detergent for sensitive skin that everyone in the family likes. That snack food that your little one who is picky about eating likes the best. If you stock up on every item you will wind up with a disorganized mess and most likely will wind up wasting food.
The best way to consider what to stock up on is to go over your grocery list and to think about what you buy repeatedly. What items your family requests again and again. Which things you would buy even if they were full price without a coupon. This will give you a sense of what is ideal to stock up on.
When you stock up, remind family that you’ve bought items in advance. Don’t let little ones get excited about 6 boxes of cereal and eat it for snack as well as for breakfast so they run out earlier than expected. Couponing works best when it becomes a family habit, try to get them involved in what you are doing as it helps everyone to enjoy the day just a bit more.
